City Towers Sign

Catherine Lezer is a well known local name when it comes to project management of this calibre. It was pleasing to see NewTechWood popping up yet again in one of her projects. This time a commercial venture involving the refurbishment of the lobby in the renowned City Towers complex in East Perth, Western Australia.

The City Towers is a 16-story high-rise apartment building replete with four magnificent double storey penthouses. Tenants of City Towers enjoy breathtaking views of the Perth city skyline, Optus Stadium, Kings Park and the Swan River. Its perfect location is within easy walking distance of local shops, restaurants, and popular city nightlife spots. It’s also just a short distance from venues such as the Perth Concert Hall, Crown Resort & Casino, the WACA, and Gloucester Park.

Award for outstanding design and innovation excellence in the apartment segment

In 2021, the City Towers complex won the People’s Choice Award at the inaugural Australian Apartment Advocacy (WA) Awards, which are the first awards of their kind in Australia to recognize outstanding design and innovation excellence in the apartment segment.  Interestingly, Catherine Lezer was also involved in the remodelling of the penthouse, which was the Winner of the Refurbished Apartment Award.

Back in 2017, the apartment owners formed a committee and the Transformation Project began in earnest, covering everything from communications, energy, safety and sustainability, as well as remodelling the lobby and reception areas on each level. In addition to innovative recycling initiatives, the complex introduced a worm farm and a small vegetable and herb garden for tenants.

Clearly, City Towers is not your average, run of the mill apartment building, and so it is not surprising that NewTechWood’s popular Castellation Cladding (colour Aged Wood) was chosen for this refurbishment project. In addition to the longevity of the product, its eco friendliness, the generous warranty and low to no maintenance requirements, it made a sensible choice.

NewTechWood cladding for the contemporary feeling of the lobby

According to Catherine, “It was a really good application of castellated board as it gave a contemporary feel to this lobby and “toned down” the overpowering and old fashioned stone flooring. It also made sense of an awkward letterbox area, giving depth and hiding the letterboxes visually.  Highly recommended for this kind of project.”
