CodeMark® Certification in Australia: What It Means for Your Cladding

What Homeowners Should Know About CodeMark® Certification in Australia

When you’re building or renovating, choosing the right cladding matters. You want to select materials that not only look good but also meet Australia’s strict building standards.

We’re proud to share that NewTechWood’s Shadowline and Castellation composite cladding systems are now CodeMark® certified (CM40405) — giving you confidence that your cladding meets the National Construction Code (NCC).

This quick guide breaks down what CodeMark® actually means (in plain English), how the certification works, and why it’s something worth caring about when it comes to your home.

What Is CodeMark® Certification?

It’s a government-backed certification scheme that proves a building product meets the National Construction Code (NCC) —  you can call it the rulebook for how buildings are designed and approved in Australia.

Because the certification is independently checked and verified, it means the product has gone through testing by qualified experts — not just marketing claims or “trust us, it’s good.”

If your cladding has CodeMark®, it’s approved to be used in Australian homes — no guesswork needed.

Why CodeMark® Matters for Homeowners

When you’re choosing cladding, you want something that looks great and will last — but also something that won’t cause approval or warranty dramas later. Here’s why CodeMark® helps:

  • Meets Australian Building Standards
CodeMark® confirms the cladding complies with NCC building rules for safety and performance.
  • Helps Speed Up Approvals
Builders, certifiers, and councils recognise CodeMark®, so paperwork and sign-off are often quicker and more straightforward.
  • Peace of Mind (No Surprises Later)
You’re choosing something that’s already been tested — not something that might become a problem down the track.
  • Designed for Australian Conditions
From salty coastal air to hot, dry summers, CodeMark® products like NewTechWood are proven to handle the climate.

Codemark Certification in Australia

The CodeMark® process is all about making sure the product truly meets Australian building standards — not just once, but ongoing.

Here’s what happens behind the scenes:

  • Independent Testing
The product is put through official testing to check its durability, safety, and overall compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC).
  • Expert Assessment
Qualified building and compliance specialists review everything — from how the product is designed to how it’s installed on-site — to ensure it performs as claimed.
  • Ongoing Quality Checks
The certification isn’t a one-time stamp. Regular audits are done to make sure the product continues to meet the CodeMark® standards over time.
  • NewTechWood’s CodeMark®-Certified Cladding

Our CodeMark® Certificate of Conformity (CM40405) covers both Shadowline and Castellation wall composite cladding.

That means they’re approved as compliant under the NCC for the applications listed in the certificate — and ready to use in residential and commercial builds across Australia.

This saves time during building consent, inspection, and final sign-off — helping your project stay on track.

For homeowners, that means:

  • Your cladding is tested, certified, and composite cladding compliance verified
  •  Builders can specify and install it faster
  • Your home meets national safety and performance standards.

And with NewTechWood’s low-maintenance, fully capped composite cladding, you’ll have a product that not only meets the code but also performs beautifully year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a NewTechWood composite deck cost more than a timber deck?

In the short term, it does. However, when you compare the maintenance, material, time and labour cost on traditional timber decks every year the costs really add up. In less than three years, you will be able to see all the time and money you would have saved by using NewTechWood composite timber.

We are the wholesale importers and thus we only supply the stores that sell NewTechWood and are unable to provide pricing because we don’t sell direct to the public. You can find the stores who do sell NewTechWood on our website here: or you can submit an enquiry through our website, and we will make sure to connect you with the nearest NewTechWood reseller to get an exact quote for you.

NewTechWood is an American family-owned company, which began in Houston, Texas. They then built their own, quality controlled, manufacturing plant in China. The American owners now manage the complete manufacturing process on site. (Manufacturing in China enables them to provide top quality products at an affordable price.)

What state are you in? Please send us your postcode and we will advise the closest reseller store to go, see display, get free samples and quote for your deck. Otherwise, you can find where the stores are listed on our Store Locator page. They all carry samples as well. Some have large displays, and some do not – you can give them a call.

We’re wholesalers and we don’t do the installation. However, we have a list of recommended installers on our website and you can find comprehensive Installation Guides on our website.

Whether or not any building product meets an Australian building standard depends on the application and the class of building on which it is being installed. For this reason, it is best to consult your architect, or Planning Officer at your local authority, for the particular standard(s) you need to meet. This will determine how it is to be constructed/used to ensure it meets the required Standard(s).

BAL Fire ratings and energy efficiency ratings are not absolute values specific to a particular product, but apply to the way in which the product is installed, or the system of building in which the product is an element.

NewTechWood Cladding does not have a BAL bushfire rating. Refer to your building engineer as you may not require a BAL rating, and may be able to be used with an engineered, fire-rated system in place. Refer to the Materials Safety Data Sheet downloadable here:

NewTechWood, like all wood plastic composite products, will expand in hotter ambient temperatures and contract in the cooler temperatures. The degree of expansion will largely depend on the type and ratio of timber & plastics used.

NewTechWood profiles will expand around 1.1mm per metre from a 15°C to high ambients.

Our hidden fix systems allow for this natural expansion & contraction to occur without affecting board creep or the design of the deck.

When installed properly, taking into account the ambient temperature at the time of installation and leaving a sufficient but not excessive gap, the spacings between the boards should always be negligible.
