More than a decade after it was first built, a two-storey residence in Subiaco, WA was ready for a new chapter.
Rather than simply repainting, the homeowners saw an opportunity to elevate their home’s appearance and performance with a long-term solution – one that would offer visual impact, texture, and lasting durability, without the need for routine maintenance.
From Flat and Faded to Architecturally Defined
Though structurally sound, the existing façade lacked visual interest. The rendered, painted facade was dull, plain and faded significantly, with hairline cracks beginning to show.
“We were looking to break up the ‘boxy’ look and add something with a bit more depth and character,” shared Tim, the homeowner. “Texture and tone were key.”
Determined to bring visual interest to the front elevation, the homeowners set out to reimagine the façade with a more intentional, architectural design.
A Durable, Contemporary Alternative to Timber
While natural timber was initially considered, the homeowners were introduced to NewTechWood by their installer, Now Projects, who recommended the product based on experience with a variety of cladding materials.
“We hadn’t come across NewTechWood before this project,” Tim noted, “but our installer had worked with it previously and highly recommended it. It had the aesthetic we wanted, with much greater longevity.”
Rowan from Now Projects explained, “Anytime we see a project that would be difficult for a homeowner to maintain, we offer products like NewTechWood. It fits within most budgets, has a great warranty, and offers a straightforward installation with plenty of guidance available. It’s a very forgiving product and not easily damaged.”
An Intentional Design with Lasting Results
After reviewing samples, the homeowners selected a bold dual-tone combination of Shadowline Cladding in Sea Salt and Shou Sugi Ban. The contrast between the soft, warm tones of Sea Salt and the charred finish of Shou Sugi Ban brought visual depth and elevated the geometric form of the home.
“We used the contrasting colours intentionally to define and elevate certain sections of the façade. It achieved exactly what we hoped,” Tim said.
Beyond the visual appeal, they also valued the performance of the product, “In addition to the colour range and the texture, we liked the durability and robustness of the material, the fact that it’s made predominantly from recycled materials, and also the hidden fixing system.”
Smart Installation, Seamless Finish
Covering approximately 70m2, the installation was completed efficiently by Now Projects, whose familiarity with NewTechWood ensured a smooth process.
“NewTechWood installs are very simple and straightforward. It’s always a pleasure working with the product,” said Rowan. “Working around windows can be a challenge, but we have methods that work well. The cover trims hide any rough cuts, which speeds up the process and ensures a clean finish.”
The finished result is sharp, balanced, and contemporary—a dramatic improvement over the original flat facade.
“It’s transformed what was previously a very uninspiring and faded surface into a 3-dimensional feature,” said the homeowners. “It’s improved the look of our home and the value too.”
A Low-Maintenance Solution Built to Last
NewTechWood’s composite cladding did not just deliver on aesthetics, but practical requirements too: durability, minimal upkeep, and performance in the local climate. The composite’s UV and weather resistance means the facade will retain its good looks for years to come, without the need for sanding, staining, or repainting.
A Confident Transformation from Every Angle
The Subiaco home now stands as a strong example of how low-maintenance materials can deliver high-impact design. With a renewed facade and peace of mind for years to come, the homeowners couldn’t be happier.
“We’re very happy with the outcome and have received quite a few compliments from friends and neighbours. It’s made a huge difference — and we don’t have to worry about repainting again.”
The homeowners also credited their installer for the quality finish, “Now Projects were very particular about their workmanship and paid great attention to the small details, of which there are many. They were very easy to deal with, and we would highly recommend them.”
