Out with the Old Decking and Revitalised with the New Stylish Decking!
Some projects stand out for being clever, different, or just special in some way. NewTechWood recommended installers, Southsea Carpentry, have pulled off such an eye-catching project in Windang, on the south coast of New South Wales. This beautiful outdoor refurbishment project utilises both NewTechWood US49 Terrace decking in teak, with NewTechWood UH61 Castellation cladding in ebony, AND marine grade stainless steel Kos lights for extra pizzaz!

Stainless Steel Secret Fixings
Tom Dillon, of Southsea Carpentry, said the project initially required simply to rip up the old hardwood deck and re-lay with new NewTechWood Composite Decking, but you know Murphy’s Law! Once they started to remove the old decking boards, they realised the existing frame had seen better days, so more than 50% of the old frame needed to be replaced. (Bear this in mind if you are replacing an old, existing deck. Sometimes you need to factor in replacing some or all the sub-frame and not just the decking.)
With this project being so close to the seaside and Lake Illawarra, they decided to use stainless steel fixings to fix the entire deck and frame, ensuring a long life into the future. They also wrapped the entire subframe in vapour or joist protection tape – an excellent decision by these experienced deck builders. Since NewTechWood decking will last a long time (it has a 25 year residential warranty for starters), you don’t want a frame that won’t match and last as long!

When You Have a Passion for Celebration
The owners of this property are also very big on entertaining and wanted to create a large outdoor area where they could accommodate friends and family in style and comfort. With this in mind, Southsea created a large bench seating area, where the NewTechWood Castellation in Ebony was used to cover the bench-rise. Included was a built-in barbecue, incorporating ample under area storage, and plant pots to divide the seating.

They also added strip lighting underneath the bench seats, and lighting within the steps going to the pool, creating a magical and much more aesthetically pleasing area at night. So, not just your average BBQ area or backyard deck. This has a touch of class!

The owners could not be happier with the finished product. They said it was more than they could’ve imagined, and the Southsea team were happy to have created that for them. Imagine the amazing festive season holidays they will be enjoying this year, and many years to come!
