Living on the back side of an adjoining timber fence means you don’t have the pretty view that your neighbour enjoys, because your view entails all the fence framework – posts and rails.

From a narrow unused space to the welcoming, polished outdoor entertaining area

Imagine that unattractive scenario coupled with a narrow space that is unusable, and now you really have a renovation task on your hands. Well, this was the challenge facing the team at Shaw Landscape Group from Unanderra (Wollongong) NSW. Shaw Landscape Group provides a comprehensive range of services, from consultancy and design through to construction and maintenance for clients based in the Illawarra region, and so naturally, they had the expertise to heed the cry for help for this residence.

From a narrow unused space, their innovative team created an intimate, welcoming, polished, modern/coastal, outdoor entertaining area. They utilised NewTechWood Castellation Cladding in colour Ipe, on a metal and timber sub-frame to maximise space and screen out the neighbours, plus hide that unattractive existing timber fence framework.

Next, custom block rendered bench seats with NewTechWood deck seating provided a convenient seating place, taking up little room.

The team then constructed a custom-built BBQ area to house a new BBQ, with black granite bench top and doors clad in NewTechWood Castellation cladding, to tie in with the overall design.

LED lighting strips installed beneath the bench seats, together with up-down feature wall lights, add a warm and cosy ambience when the sun sets.

Finally, the addition of dividing composite screening, again using NewTechWood Castellation cladding panels to partition the space and conceal the clothesline and hot water tank at the front side of the property provided the finishing touch.
