The Riverview Hotel had long been a familiar venue in the community, but years of wear had left it damaged, outdated, and in need of significant restoration. The exterior cladding was failing, termite damage had spread through the structure, and the back area — once a carpark — was nothing more than cracked concrete.
With new owners eager to rejuvenate the hotel and enhance its appeal, the outdoor area became the heart of the renovation plan; a space where quality materials and thoughtful design would deliver the biggest transformation.
Turning A Hotel’s Building Challenges Into a Design Opportunity
From the outset, the project presented major construction challenges: asbestos, sagging walls, termite damage, and inconsistent brickwork. Extensive excavation and new spot footings were required before any outdoor enhancements could even begin.
The initial plan for a small deck soon expanded as the team recognised the full potential of the space. Working closely with the owners, Daniel from DKMX Constructions Pty Ltd helped shape the design into a complete outdoor hospitality zone – functional, inviting, and ready for daily use.

To create a visually cohesive environment, matching UH58 Castellation Cladding (50mm) in Aged Wood was installed across the façades of both the pub and the adjoining Thai restaurant. Handrails in a complementary finish were added to complete the outdoor space, ensuring that every element — decking, cladding, and balustrades — worked together in a unified colour palette.
