NewTechWood UH02 Ipe deck

When the owners of this Mindarie home contacted installers, MCL Carpentry, they wanted help with their backyard. In particular, an unattractive grassed area, that was, among other things, a waste of valuable and usable space. Let’s face it, if you live in Western Australia, you spend a greater part of the year outside and entertaining, and with smaller block sizes, all space is precious.

Another consideration with vast lawn spaces is how thirsty they are and how precious our water resources have become. Watering and maintaining a lawn is no longer considered by many to be an optimum use of water and spare time resources. Who wants to spend their weekends mowing and fussing over their lawn, anyway?

Besides, when you are serving food to guests, or sitting and relaxing in your favourite chair, or even riding your trike, a reliably sturdy surface beats a lumpy, patchy lawn any day.

From a dying lawn to a magnificent outdoor entertainment area

So, the decision to go from a dying lawn to a magnificent outdoor entertainment area came down to the choice of decking.  After deciding that a composite board met the owner’s social conscience and desire to spend weekends relaxing and not doing maintenance, MCL Carpentry recommended NewTechWood, because as they said, “… I think it’s one of the more modern-looking boards that won’t kill the bank.”

The owner agreed and loved the way the NewTechWood board looked and felt.  He thought the other brands looked too fake and he wanted realism. He also loved the fact that being so close to the ocean, the NewTechWood board could stand up to the elements, and being concerned for the environment, he loved the eco-friendliness.

Metro Range is perfect for homes

Furthermore, he chose the UH02 Metro, which is a hollow board, but still has the strength of its solid relative, the US49 Terrace profile, and the other difference is it goes on a joist span of 350 mm as opposed to 450mm.  It is currently only sold in Western Australia, where the 350mm joist span is more common.  It also comes with a reassuring 25-year Warranty and is BAL 29 rated.  The owner chose what might be one of our most popular colours, Ipe, because it goes with everything, as can be seen.  It ties in the lighter limestone garden edge blocks with the red brick and paving of the house perfectly.

With the NewTechWood deck combined with deck lights (for the added ambience and safety aspects), MCL Carpentry turned a dying backyard into an area that is beautiful to look at and perfect for entertaining.

The owner was so pleased with his new deck and MCL Carpentry’s workmanship that he gifted them with crayfish on top of payment for a job well done.  After a hard day’s work, you can see a diligent carpenter sitting down to a well-earned drink and a crayfish meal, can’t you?

Well, we can give you the deck and the lighting ambience, but the crayfish, probably not…  If you would like professional advice on our decking and lighting, feel free to contact our friendly team.

(And if you are in W.A. you will find plenty of wonderful seafood restaurants here to cater for those crayfish desires!)
