When you think of the Gold Coast in Queensland, it conjures up visions of stretches of long white sandy beaches, perfect surfing waves, and scantily clad tanned beach-goers soaking up the sun in luxury.  No?

If you are eating lunch at the Palm Beach Surf Club then you won’t need your imagination.  Their boast is you won’t find a restaurant or bar in Palm Beach that will get you closer to the sand and surf than their Surf Club, which is located right on the beachfront in the heart of Palm Beach.

It is also the first Surf Club in Australia to be officially accredited as “Ocean Friendly” from Surfrider Foundation Australia, in recognition of their efforts to have no plastic straws, no Styrofoam or single use plastic cups, and reusable tableware in addition to actively introducing recycling methods.  So it is little wonder they chose environmentally friendly #NewTechWood for their new decking.

The Club has been undergoing a facelift with a fresh coat of paint and a new NewTechWood deck.  They opted for NewTechWood’s Coastal US54 range, a luxurious wide board, in the popular colour, Teak.

The decking was supplied by local NewTechwood reseller, Big River Midcoast, situated in Burleigh Heads, and was installed by Mitch from Kekwick Constructions, also based in Palm Beach.

According to Mitch, “For the deck at the Palm Beach Surf Club, the venue is right on the beach, so the client needed a product that could handle the elements, though did not want to compromise on design. The client specifically requested a timber-look product however for safety of patrons also needed it to have a slip rating. As the product was installed in a high traffic area which was exposed to the elements, the client felt confident in selecting NewTechwood, as company offered a warranty which is what I think ultimately got the client over the line.”
