Renovating instead of selling and buying again can be a rewarding and valuable proposition, especially if you love your address, and you don’t want to move. This huge 1974-built 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home is situated in what was once a massive 2,070m² block, now subdivided and still offering a generous 990 m2 for the owners in beautiful, leafy Kalamunda. It needed a complete overhaul inside and out to remove the echoes of the past – the days of flared jeans, orange kitchens, and The Brady Bunch.
NewTechWood brought the old home into the 2020s
The brilliant architectural brain behind the redesign was Catherine Lezer (@catherine.lezer) who also provided the project management, while Thornloe – Rice Creative Builders brought her inspired vision to life.

Among other things, like a new kitchen, the renovation included a new colour bond roof, new windows and joinery, new fixtures and fittings and new reverse cycle ducted air-conditioning. And the simple removal of this outdated arched verandah entrance and the addition of NewTechWood UH61 Castellation Cladding (colour Aged Wood) helped transform this external part of the home and bring it into the 2020s.
Wall cladding provided depth to the entrance portico
As Catherine explained, the cladding was used to give depth to an otherwise unremarkable entrance portico. Creating this involved the installation of 18sqm of NewTechWood Castellation Cladding supplied by John’s Building Supplies in Welshpool. The remodelled entrance in its fresh, uncluttered, modern styling is now unrecognisable from the original dated façade, and the value-added in kerb appeal alone is significant.
